Islamic Studies is one of three subjects we teach in our Sunday School. In this class, we assign the students their classes based on their age and grade level in public school so they will feel comfortable learning the material with classmates in their age group.
Our primary goal is to provide students with an age-appropriate awareness of Islam, faith in Allah, the five pillars of Islam, and behavior of a Muslim in society with good morals and manners, and how to conduct day-to-day life as a Muslim. Learn about Allāh – Who He is and why we worship Him, and the blessings of Allāh.
In quranic reading class, students will learn the Arabic letters – recognition of the shapes, and their proper Makhaarij, to identify, recognize, and write the Arabic alphabet. Students will be taught an entire vocabulary and numbers of Arabic and will learn to understand some grammar and applications. By the end of the course, students should be able to read Qur’ān with correct pronunciation using the rules of tajweed.
During quranic studies, we evaluate students based on their memorization. Students will start from the Surah Al-Fatiha, An-Nas, Al-Falaq, Al-Ikhlas, and Al-Masad (5 surahs) (Ages 4 years – 5 Years). The teacher also creates a small group to help them more focus and reach their goal in the memorize Quran. Once they complete Juz Amma, students will continue to Juz Tabarak, etc. The teacher also teaches them the basic tafsir.
